Uber Portugal office raided in tax probe
Portuguese police and tax agents searched the premises of Uber Technologies in Lisbon on Tuesday as part of a wider investigation and raids targeting some of its delivery partners, but not the U.S.-based company’s local unit, Uber said.
In a statement, Uber confirmed the searches and said “Uber is not the targeted entity”. It was collaborating with authorities and providing all the information requested.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office said in a separate statement officers conducted 65 searches on Tuesday in an investigation of suspected tax fraud worth 28 million euros ($30 million).
The alleged fraud involved partners providing delivery services to an unnamed commercial company, who allegedly “benefited from the issuance of invoices that did not correspond to services actually provided”, it said.
